Week 1: Introduction – “Setting the Rhythm”
Introduction to the group and establishing a safe space. Explore the concept of grounding and how rhythm provides stability.
Focus: How can rhythm help us feel present and secure?
Activities: Group jam sesssion to build connection; co-create a simple rhythmic pattern symbolizing resilience.
Reflection: Discuss the importance of grounding and the role of music in healing.
Week 2: Emotional Awareness – “Finding Your Voice”
Reflect on identifying and expressing emotions. Explore how music can give a voice to unspoken feelings.
Focus: What emotions are you holding onto, and how can you release them?
Activities: Lyric-sharing exercise; guided songwriting to describe an emotional experience.
Reflection: Share how creating lyrics or melodies helps process emotions.
Week 3: Emotional Regulation – “Harmony Within”
Explore the concept of balance and emotional regulation through harmony and melody.
Focus: How do we navigate and resolve emotional tension in life and relationships?
Activities: Vocal improvisation and harmony-building exercises; humming/toning for calming.
Reflection: Discuss how harmony represents balance and how it applies to emotional regulation.
Week 4: Resilience – “The Beat Goes On”
Focus on resilience and the ability to move forward despite challenges.
Focus: How can rhythm represent strength and adaptability?
Activities: Individual rhythmic "strength statements"; group drumming composition combining everyone’s unique rhythm.
Reflection: Explore the concept of resilience and how it is built through challenges.
Week 5: Processing – “Soundscapes of the Soul”
Use free improvisation and instrumental play to process and express inner struggles.
Focus: How can music help us process difficult emotions and experiences?
Activities: Guided improvisation with instruments to express a personal struggle; create a group "healing soundscape."
Reflection: Share the experience of releasing emotions through sound and how it felt to be heard.
Week 6: Closure – “Melody of Resilience”
Celebrate progress, reflect on personal growth, and prepare for the future.
Focus: What have you learned about yourself, and how will you carry this forward?
Activities: Co-write and record a final group song that incorporates themes and music created throughout the sessions.
Reflection: Share takeaways and affirmations, then listen to the group song together to close the circle.
